2017 WWHS EV Team $500 Scholarship Deadline May 17, 2017 EV Scholarship Basics: Two EV scholarships for $500 will be awarded to any West Wilkes High School EV students regardless of grade level. The scholarships will be awarded to students that have demonstrated superior work ethic and display of EV related accomplishments. The scholarship check will be made out to the student with proof of purchase for tuition, books, or other college type expenses. In the event the student selects a military route of higher learning then the check would be made out to the student directly upon proof of enlisting. Application Process: Applicant will submit: 1) A resume that outlines community involvement, jobs and EV Team accomplishments. 2) Essay that explains why they deserve the scholarship. (Financial need may be considered) Selection Process: West Wilkes High School has a scholarship award committee that will review and make recommendations for the scholarship. Mr. Tolbert is not part of this undisclosed committee. Final selection will be made solely by the committee. Tyler drives home the win for the EV Team during the Google Gravity Games Engineering Challenge. The EVent requires a vehicle to not only go the fastest down a hill (that is over 1 football field in length being propelled by gravity alone) but to store energy in some way while going down the hill and use it to travel back up the hill. Tyler drove the Charged Hawk the fastest down the hill and drove back up the hill nearly 350 feet. The team was chosen to meet with our Governor, Roy Cooper, yesterday in Raleigh for North Carolina Environmental Quality Awards! During the event our team presented our Mazda Miata, STEM Cycle and STEP Challenge cars. Our team members also answered and explained to guests who had questions about our program, team and electric vehicles. |
