Having the opportunity to be a part of a milestone that was accomplished through years of hard work and dedication is something that I do not take lightly. So when Mr. Tolbert asked me to join him in traveling to Boone to present our electric Mazda Miata to Appalachian State students I was eager to attend. While I followed the Miata in my personal car up the incline of the mountain I cannot say that I wasn’t the slightest bit worried. Although with every mile we traveled, my worry slowly vanished, until we finally reached the meeting with power to spare. As we pulled in, a feeling of excitement and proudness overcame me, as well as Mr. Tolbert. Presenting the electric car to the students was a wonderful experience that I will never forget and I feel that with every presentation I become a better public speaker.

EV Team removes old lead acid batteries.  Lead acid in the EV world is like the bag phone in the cellular world.  Out with the old for now.  Santa, we need batteries!  If you would like to sponsor our program to support this endeavor please let us know.  Our goal is to install a Nissan Leaf pack in this S-10.

ETS EV Showcase- Raleigh NC

11/14/2014

Team Captain Caleb and Miata were chosen to present at the EV Showcase along side the BMW I3, Tesla S, and Elf vehicles.  Caleb was able to network with leading professionals in the area of energy and allowed a few minutes on stage to insert a plug for our program as well as the EV Challenge.

As captain of the West Wilkes High School Electric Vehicle Team I can honestly say that attending the Energy Though Summit in Raleigh was an eye opening experience. The event was everything that I was hoping it would be, in that it reinforced my support of the alternative energy field. While I know that the field has begun to expand in recent years, I did not know that it was growing at such an exponential rate. Hearing about all of the countless companies that are putting time and money into clean technology gives me hope that there will one day be a place for me in a similar career. The most interesting part of the event was the fact that it not only reinforced my knowledge, but brought to my attention the fact that the clean energy field is so much larger than just clean energy. It is a field that will one day have to include countless other systems; such as big data, smart cities, a large workforce, and many other facets in order to operate efficiently. Getting to witness all of these plans, ideas, and leaders in the field first hand was a life altering experience that I will never forget.

WE DID IT! Mountain Climb to Boone, NC home to Appstate

11/7/2014

Greetings All,It is with great excitement that I am announcing the successful attempt to drive our electric miata from school campus to Appalachian State University!  This is a 62 mile round trip that requires a challenging climb to 3333 feet at grades from 6%-8%. The weather was not on our side with wind gusts over 40 mph and dropping temperatures upon our return to near freezing.  While in Boone Team Captain Caleb presented our Miata to the Solar Vehicle Team of Appalachian State University.

As we maneuvered through campus I had tears of joy remembering all the students that have contributed to this accomplishment dating back to 2007.  While no roses or podiums existed at the finish line I could not be more proud of what all the team members, volunteers, sponsors and school system have accomplished.  THANK YOU volunteers, sponsors, and Wilkes County school System!  You made this a reality.
