The ultimate goal of the activity is to use trigonometry to pull with a great enough force to get a truck unstuck from the mud or snow. The picture shows students demonstrating they can move a 5000 lb truck up a steep hill using a tow strap and trigonometry. The same task was tried by 11 students pulling tug of war style. Results-1 student armed with trigonometry can outperform the 11 using pure muscle. Tyson Foods has been a partner to our EV program since we started in 2005. From lessons in fabricating stainless steel structural members in all our vehicles to assistance in education, design and engineering Tyson Foods has always played a role. Thank You Tyson Foods! EV 5th Period Projects: Operation work bench, Arise STEM Cycle, and Brown Gravity Car Build Begins9/28/2017 Katelyn builds her first work bench with the help of the team. She gracefully learns how to man an impact driver and framing screws. Bench will be used to house RC and Robot carpet track when not in use. STEM Cycle has been released from summer storage and is now ready for testing and tuning. Brown's gravity car build begins with Charlie's assistance. New members are in the process of applying to be team members and sponsorship drive has begun. EV Team hits fall 2017 wide open.... Sherwinn-Williams donated a perfect sized carpet to be used in our shop for robot and remote control car tracks. We will be able to roll it up perfectly when not in use in the back of the shop. Thank You Everyone at Sherwinn-Williams North Wilkesboro! The long awaited upgrade from 36 to 48 volt cushman motor. This will increase performance by approximately 25%. This year the EV Team is using an idea taken from the Appstate Solar Vehicle Team. Potential new members are allowed to shadow existing members for 2 weeks before applying. This gives anyone interested the opportunity to see what it is like day to day on the team before they commit. This year could be the largest EV team on record. |
