Former EV member was always interested in solidworks, electronics, and focused on excellence in every aspect of his life in class, athletics, and spiritually. Now JJ is poised to teach Technology, Engineering and Design and is currently employed by NC State. JJ is the first graduate of the EV Team completing a degree in Technology Education who could in fact replace, compete with or teach alongside Mr. Tolbert.
EV Bio - JJ LaPlante I was a very successful student at West Wilkes High School from 2008-2012, and being on the Electric Vehicle Team helped me to continue successfully as I transitioned into college at NC State University. During my time with the WWHS EV Team, I got to be a part of something that really helped foster my interests in engineering and design. I’ve always enjoyed tinkering and participating in hands-on projects, so working on the EV Team gave me various opportunities to try my hand at different elements in the design process, such as drawing the schematics for the electrical design, spending time in the shop, helping code the PDA, searching for sponsorships, getting my first experiences with SolidWorks, and getting to see it all come together at the competitions, at which we were very successful. My journey through NC State has been full and exciting as I will be graduating with a degree in Technology, Engineering, and Design Education with the intent to work in an industry using SolidWorks, continue my hobby with electronics, and possibly teach in the future. During my last year in college, I was a teaching assistant for an introductory SolidWorks class and am now professionally certified with this software as well. I have the EV Team to thank for helping foster the early stages of my hobbies and future career interests, and I hope they continue to be both fun and successful for future students.
